It’s that time of the yearrr folks! The holy month of Ramadan is upon us and I don’t know about you, but I’ve started preps already! Fasting during Ramadan means you need a good Sehri (pre-dawn meal) plan to ace time management. You need your food to be easy, nutritious and filling. I’ve got you covered fellow faster!
Tips for Sehri
It’s always better to be prepared in advance so that you are not spending most of your time in the kitchen during Ramadan. Here are a couple of pointers to keep in mind for Sehri, along with some great recipe recommendations.
- Jot down a rough menu list in advance for Sehri and Iftar. This way you know exactly what you are going to have and you can work on freezing as much food as you can beforehand so that the actual Sehri time is not a crazy “running around the house” scenario.
- Yogurt based food and drinks are awesome in keeping you hydrated throughout the day. So drinks like lassi or smoothies, side serving of raw yogurt are great additions to your Sehri meals.
- Try to keep your water intake to a minimum and Sehri and spread it out throughout the non-fasting period instead.
- I’ve put together a pretty awesome list for Sehri for you, most of which are freezable, and the rest are easy to whip up. Up ahead

A traditional mildly spiced recipe for a whole chicken from the province of Balochistan in Pakistan.
This isn't a typical Sehri food. But the more I thought about it, the more I'm convinced that it should be! Its purely protein, needs to be marinated way in advance and you can prepare it right at dinner time. Not one of those things that need to be consumed hot outta the oven so allsss good!
Plus ofcourse the leftovers have so much potential! for all sorts of fillings and wraps.
Nauratan Chicken
A quick and eclectic Pakistani chicken curry, made with boneless chicken, potatoes, bell peppers and onions in a tomato and yogurt based thick gravy, seasoned with roasted spices. Best served with roti, chapati, paratha or pulao

Also, the leftovers make a killerrr sandwich filling for Iftar.
Shakshuka
Typical Mediterranean spicy eggs, cooked in a bed of tomato sauce with onions and garlic.
I usually prepare the tomato base for 2 shakshuka servings and keep it in the fridge. It stays fresh for a week easy! Which means I can have Shakshuka twice that week with only 5 mins to give it in the morning
Pakistani chicken curry - Murghi ka saalan

Spicy one pot Asian Chicken noodles
An easy Asian style spicy chicken and vegetable noodle recipe, ready within 30 mins and only needs one pot to cook!
I don't see noodles being a popular Sehri choice, but when you are cooking everything in one pot, AND you can prep this the night before, I'd say give it a shottt!
